An IIHS Top Safety pick, this three-row midsize SUV has a spacious cabin, and it's loaded with tech features.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV that has been launched for a base MSRP of $48,595. Offered in three trim configurations, the 2022 XT6 has got everything you need in a family SUV. It is quite spacious on the inside and comes packed with most of the bells and whistles as standard. The elegant exterior design and the reasonably long optional packages are a great addition too.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is part of the first generation of the XT6 which hit the American shore back in 2019 and there aren't any major changes from the earlier model years. The top-spec Sport trim gets Brembo brakes and red-painted brake calipers. The Platinum package offers Modena leather upholstery as well. However, both the turbocharged inline-4 engine while the optional V6 engine remains unchanged. Interior doesn't see a whole lot of differences either. Competing with the Acura MDX and Lincoln Aviator, here are 10 things you need to know before buying the 2022 Cadillac XT6.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 turned out to be one of the most beautiful offerings in the mid-size three-row SUV segment. Look at it from the front, and you would appreciate the sharp and handsome design language with the Cadillac pentagonal grille, classy bumper design, and the LED headlights with LED DRLs neatly integrated into a single unit.

Even the side and rear silhouettes are impressive too, with the beautiful 20" or 21" alloy wheels that cover the wheel wells, subtle chrome accents, roof rails, and LED taillights. The dual exhaust system and excellent width of 77.3" gives it a more pronounced appearance when viewed from the front and rear, and it also gets quite a lot of packages and optional extras too.

This is an SUV that ticks all the right boxes if you are intending to buy it for hauling your entire family comfortably. Step-in height isn't very high due to the average overall height and ground clearance, helping it to be comfortable for getting in and out of. The leather upholstery coupled with many luxury features coming in as standard is a plus point too.

The front and second-row seats have more than enough headroom, legroom, and shoulder room even for the taller folks. Being a 7-seater SUV, the middle row has a captain's chair and the seats are plenty supportive. Even the third row offered better space than many of the rivals. The cargo capacity of 12.6 cu ft is decent too.

The price tag of $48,595 makes the 2022 Cadillac XT6 an incredibly value-for-money proposition for the segment. The base Luxury trim gets all the required interior, exterior, and entertainment features as standard, and the buyers on a tight budget are going to prefer it more than the base trims of the competitors.

Even the higher Premium Luxury and Sport trims offer many more standard techs and features for the price it comes in. The Premium Luxury trim which is priced at $56,390 is the one to get off the lot as it comes loaded with a hands-free liftgate, a host of driver-assistance techs, leather upholstery, and wireless phone charging.

With this 2022 iteration, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 comes with a few changes to the optional packages that are offered. The platinum package that is offered for an MSRP of $3,800 now comes with Modena leather on the steering wheel instead of Turin leather.

Apart from that, the premium package offers many more features like Maple semi-aniline leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, and premium carpeted floor mats. Other packages on offer include the onyx lite package, onyx package, technology package, driver-assistance package, and comfort and air quality package. All of these are reasonably priced too.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 motor producing 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque with the base Luxury trim. The engine comes mated to a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission with overdrive and gear range selector, and this SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 lbs.

Even though the performance numbers do not seem to be the best of the segment by any means, the 0-60 MPH time of 7.5 seconds isn't terribly slow. It can also be had with both FWD or AWD drivetrains too. However, the 3.6-liter V6 is faster in the 0-60 MPH run by close to 1 second.

The 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 motor would be our pick of the lot as it offers better performance and acceleration for not a lot more money. This motor gives out 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque and the transmission duties are handled by the same 9-speed automatic transmission as that of the 2.0-liter mill.

The 0-60 MPH comes in just 6.4 seconds, and it has a higher top speed of 132 MPH as well. Even the in-gear acceleration is superior to the XT6 with the turbocharged inline-4 powerplant under the hood. The towing capacity of 4,000 lbs is superb too.

The first thing that you would notice when you get inside the 2022 Cadillac XT6 is the classy design of the cabin. The premium leather upholstery would feel surreal while doing those long road trips and the wooden and leather accents on the dashboard and door cards give it the required luxuriousness that one would expect from the segment.

The cabin can be had with jet black and cirrus upholstery colors, and you could also get it with multiple wooden accents from the optional list. The single slab design of the dashboard aids in the visibility front and chunky steering wrapped in leather is a plus point too. It comes filled with all the bells and whistles even with the lower trim configurations.

The 8" Cadillac User Experience infotainment comes as standard with all the trims of the 2022 Cadillac XT6, and it gets the job done perfectly. Being loaded with all the necessary connectivity and entertainment features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, and wi-fi hotspot, you wouldn't need to opt for any optional packages.

However, the navigation, rear seat entertainment system, 8" diagonal color driver information screen, and DVD player are part of the optional packages. The Bose premium 8-speaker audio system comes as standard with the 2022 XT6. You could upgrade it to the Bose Performance Series 14-speaker audio system if you want a better audio experience.

Like many of the segment rivals, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 doesn't disappoint when it comes to safety performance. This luxury SUV received a 5-star rating in the NHTSA crash test with a similar rating in all the subsections of the test. The IIHS awarded it the 2022 top safety pick + title for the mid-size luxury SUV segment.

In terms of the features, the XT6 comes with automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blindspot monitoring, driver monitoring system, and collision mitigation system as standard. However, the adaptive cruise control and night vision system are optional extras.

The braking performance sees no changes from the older model years of the XT6 and that helps the car to anchor down effectively from triple-digit speeds. Stomp hard on the brake pedal from 70 MPH and this SUV comes to a complete stop in 171 feet.

In comparison, the Volvo XC90 did the same 70-0 MPH braking at 184 feet and Audi Q7 did it at 178 feet. The 12.6" front rotors and 12.4" rear rotors of the 2022 XT6 are one of the largest rotors in the segment. All the braking features like ABS with EBD, automated emergency braking, ventilated rotors, and brake assist are standard too.
