The first things that come to mind when I hear the words "Subaru STI" are: sports sedan, blue finish, and gold-painted wheels. However, The WRX STI is dead for now, and the STI as we know it might come to an end as Subaru looks to use the STI designation for its hybrid lineup. Pretty soon it will become pretty much impossible to find an STI model with a simple gasoline engine, so you should take advantage of this offer and buy yourself a 2004 STI - which, if you ask us is the best Subaru you can buy!
This particular STI was first registered in Rhode Island, and from there moved to Massachusetts and New Hampshire - where is currently being listed for sale. And while it may not be in pristine condition, it surely worth your attention.
The exterior has gone through a few updates, but the STI look,in general, was left untouched. Over the years, the car received an aftermarket carbon-fiber hood scoop, new side skirts, a bigger rear wing, HID headlights, and Rally Armor front and rear splash guards. The car is finished in World Rally Blue Pearl (02C) combined with a black vinyl wrap on the roof and tinted windows and taillights. It rides on a set of 17-inch BBS wheels finished in gold and wrapped in 225/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The Brembo brake calipers feature the same gold color.
The interior will offer the same STI feeling. The cabin is trimmed in black cloth with blue inserts and the steering wheel is wrapped in black leather. The speedometer indicates 160 mph, while the digital odometer shows 104,000 miles - not bad at all for a car manufactured in 2004. While most of the interior was left untouched, the car did receive a Pioneer touchscreen head unit.
Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four has been mildly updated. The current owner added a new intake system, a new turbo heatshield, new fuel pressure regulator, and a handheld tuner - all coming from Cobb. There is also a new Perrin turbo inlet hose, an IAG Flex fuel conversion kit, and new 1,300cc fuel injectors. As a result, the total output went from the standard 300 horsepower up to 353 horsepower. The engine sends its power to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
The car does have a few imperfections, on both the exterior and the interior (as shown in a few pictures), but in a few years, it could worth a lot more than the current bid ($15,000 at the moment of this writing). Even more, since the 2023 Subaru STI had to be canceled due to the stricter emissions regulations, it will probably be a few years until you will have the chance to see the STI back on your local dealer, and that’s if it ever comes back at all.
