Rare McLaren Sabre Hypercar to Wow at Mecum Monterey

When the McLaren Sabre launched in 2020, it made history as the most powerful non-hybrid and fastest two-seat hypercar the brand has ever produced. Considering the commitment automakers are making to electrification, the Sabre is likely to be rare relic of exotic car history.

At its core, the Sabre has the same twin-turbo V-8 and carbon-fiber tub found in the McLaren Senna, but its exterior has been completely reworked and the engine retuned by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) Commission program. The MSO team cranked the boosted V-8 to 824 horsepower, which is 35 more than the Senna. That extra power and its new aerodynamic package allow the Sabre to reach a top speed of 218 mph (10 mph higher than the Senna).

Beyond the performance upgrades, MSO allowed buyers to customize their Sabre with bespoke colors and interior trims. In total, only 15 McLaren Sabres were produced for the American market, and chassis No. 11 will be part of the Mecum Auctions during Monterey Car Week.

The original owner of this car had it sprayed with Liquid Argentum paint contrasting with exposed (but glossed) carbon-fiber accents. Liquid Papaya orange pinstriping and Volcano Orange-painted brake calipers finish off the exterior.

The owner opted for an asymmetrical look with the interior by commissioning a Volcano Orange driver's seat and a Carbon Black passenger seat. As you might expect, there are several MSO logos throughout the cabin.

This particular McLaren Sabre is billed as one of the "main attractions" for Mecum Monterey 2022, and the auctioneers estimate it will sell for somewhere between $4.5 million and $5 million. However, considering how rare this car is, we wouldn't be surprised if the winning bid exceeds those expectations by the time the gavel drops.

There is always the possibility the car doesn't sell at all, but considering the quantity of multimillionaires and billionaires that will be in attendance at Monterey, we think this car has a pretty good chance of going to a new home before the week is done.
