One of the most famous motor races in the world, the Indianapolis 500 is traditionally held each year on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Last year the race returned to its familiar time slot after the 2020 race was held in August, since race organizers had to postpone the event due to the pandemic. Since the first Indianapolis 500-mile race in 1911, a specially appointed pace car has led the field in formation to the green flag for the thrilling rolling start of the 500-mile race. It is an honor — for both driver and car — to be chosen to pace the start of this historic race, and many special-edition vehicles have been created over the years to commemorate the event.
