A closer look at the artist's supercar that recently crossed the auction block.

Celebrities and fancy cars go together like peanut butter and jelly. This means that it isn't a surprise that the automotive community has a deep interest in the types of cars their favorite celebrities own and drive. Considering that the average car fanatic can't afford half the cars they want, they in part live vicariously through them.

Today we will be talking about a very special vehicle recently sold by RM Sotheby's in Fort Lauderdale: a first-generation Ford GT. But this isn't any old run-of-the-mill American supercar, as this particular one was once owned by music legend Robert James Ritchie, more commonly known as Kid Rock, a man well known for owning a nice collection of cars.

Read on to find out everything we know about Kid Rock's recently auctioned Ford GT.

The year 2005 marked the return of a legendary nameplate from Ford Motor Company. The Ford GT got revived, only this time it meant to grace our road and not only the tracks. The new road-going GT had 550 hp on tap from its 5.4-liter V8, and an even crazier 500 lb-ft of torque. These power figures allowed the mid-engined supercar to reach 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and an astonishing 205 mph, an impressive performance even by today's standards.

The revival of the GT name was a huge success, once again showing that Ford still had the engineering prowess to hang with its European rivals, just as it has in the past. Having sold a little over 4,000 units, the Ford GT easily reached collector's status thanks to its performance, rarity, and legacy.

According to RM Sotheby's, the recently sold 2005 Ford GT finished in Mark IV Red with the full stripes was previously owned by Kid Rock. They also note the celebrity as its only owner during the car's existence. After 17 years since its fabrication, this 2005 GT has only 3,096 miles on the clock, which is an extremely low mileage puts this car in almost near mint condition.

This example came from the factory with painted racing stripes and brake calipers, BBS wheels, and McIntosh stereo and subwoofer combo. Factoring in the rarity, with only 669 available in Mark IV Red in the 2005 model year, this celebrity-owned Ford GT fetched a whopping $638,000 at the auction last month, easily doubling the winning bid on a similar one sold two years ago on BaT.

Keep in mind that Kid Rock's GT also came with a signed poster by designer Camilo Pardo and an autographed guitar by the legend himself. This package deal has most likely sweetened the deal, which might have contributed to the winning price. We don't know who the buyer is, but it is fairly safe to say that they have acquired a piece of American history and got a nice guitar with it.
