It's a fan favorite, thanks to its supercar performance, luxurious cabin, and lots more.

The Chevrolet Corvette is America's answer to the two-door luxury sports car segment and has been on sale since early 1953. Being one of the longest surviving lineups ever, the Corvette has gone through seven generations and is currently in its eight-generation avatar. The C8 Corvette is quite synonymous with its unmatched performance from the naturally aspirated V8 motor and luxurious cabin experience, and it is also more versatile than the outgoing generation as well.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is now available for sale at a base MSRP of $65,595 for the coupe and $73,095 for the convertible version and comes with quite a lot of changes from the 2021 model. There is a new limited edition appearance package inspired by the IMSA GTLM championship. Along with that, there are more exterior color palettes, an optional low-profile rear spoiler, and upgraded mechanicals. Competing with the Jaguar F-Type R, Audi R8, and Porsche 911 Carrera S, here are 10 things you need to know before buying the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette comes with the same 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine under the hood. This mill comes mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with power being put to the ground through the RWD drivetrain, and the performance numbers come out at 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

The engine also gets a dry sump system and variable valve timing system, and all of these help it to give out a 0-60 MPH time of 3 seconds and a quarter mile time of 11.2 seconds. The Corvette also turned out to be the fastest of the lot, especially when compared to the much more expensive rivals like the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Audi R8, and Jaguar F Type R.

The Z51 package is an optional performance package that costs an additional $6,345 and can be had with all the three trim configurations of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette. This performance package adds a whole lot of performance goodies, and it ultimately helps in achieving even better acceleration times than the Corvette in the stock form. The package includes an electronic limited-slip differential which improves the traction and stability.

Along with that, other features like performance ratio rear axle, Brembo braking hardware performance exhaust, and a Z51 rear spoiler are also included. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S high-performance summer tires are offered, and the cooling system also sees an upgrade to the heavy-duty system featuring a rear-mounted radiator and brake cooling ducts.

Step into the cabin of the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and you are most likely to be wowed by the overall ambiance. Offered in four color and material selections namely, jet black with performance textile, jet black with Mulan leather seating surfaces, sky cool gray with Mulan leather seating surfaces, and adrenaline red with Mulan leather seating surfaces, the 2022 Corvettes interior looks nothing else like the competitors.

The squared-out steering wheel with high-quality leather wrapped onto it coupled with rich metal accents, suede elements, and the premium feeling leather on most of the touchpoints makes it an ultimate sports coupe that fulfills the luxury aspect as well. The seats are plush and come with top-notch bolstering for the driver and passenger, and the switchgear quality is up there with the best from Germany. The beautifully crafted single slab dashboard and the driver-focused cabin design with well-integrated infotainment and digital gauge cluster add to the look of the cabin as well.

We have never been a fan of the mediocre list of safety and driver assistance features that came standard with all the earlier generations of the Chevrolet Corvette. The same is also the case with this 2022 iteration which is part of the eighth generation of the Corvette lineup. The bass 1LT trim misses out on all the driver assistance features that you would normally expect at this price point

However, you could get the higher 2LT or 3LT trims as both of these offers a few standard features like the side blind zone alert system, rear cross-traffic alert, and high-definition front and rear cameras. The basic safety features like active handling and stability control, traction control, rear park assist system, airbags, and tire pressure monitoring system are standard. Aluminum unibody coupled with aluminum exterior panels helps the Chevrolet Corvette to come out with excellent build quality. However, it hasn't been crash-tested yet.

The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette isn't the most frugal offering of the segment as it offers a city gas mileage of 18 MPG, a highway gas mileage of 27 MPG, and combined gas mileage of 19 MPG. However, since this is a two-seater sports coupe, the buyers aren't going to be too conscious of the fuel efficiency numbers.

In comparison, the Porsche 911 Carrera S offers the highest combined gas mileage of 20 MPG. The Audi R8 Coupe and Jaguar F-Type R offered a lower 17 MPG and 18 MPG, respectively. With a fuel tank capacity of 18.5 gallons, the 2022 Corvette could do a combined range of 351 miles, which is on par with most of the drivers of the segment.

Apart from the inclusion of the limited edition Appearance Package, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette doesn't come with a whole lot of exterior upgrades. This costs $6,595 over the base price and comes with changes in the form of a new yellow and gray exterior paint scheme, rear spoiler, and a different mirror color. Apart from the optional package, the 2022 model also gets a new optional low-profile spoiler and three new colors

The razor-sharp design language of the outgoing model is carried forward unchanged, and the car looks stunning from all angles. The front end gates LED headlights with LED DRLs, blacked-out air dam and dual air vents, and low height and ground clearance, all of which make it a very appealing offering. The side profile is accentuated by the beautifully crafted 19-inch alloy wheels. There are quite a lot of exterior design options in the form of multiple stripes and graphics, brake caliper colors, and even alloy wheel options.

The infotainment duties in the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette are done with the help of an 8" touchscreen display that uses the Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 Plus software. This infotainment comes with all the features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 4G Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, Bluetooth, and Sirius XM radio. We also liked the fact that both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have wireless connectivity and there is also NFC support.

The 12" digital gauge cluster displays all the much-needed information to the driver, and it is also highly configurable. There is a heads-up display that comes standard with three modes and is going to be a boon while on the racetrack. The audio is handled by a 14-speaker Bose Performance Series sound system and the audio quality is expected to be similar to that of the older models.

The braking hardware sees no upgrades from the outgoing models, and it is still one of the fiercest of the segment due to the massive front and rear rotors and all the braking features coming in as standard. The 12.6" front rotors and 13.3" rear rotors help the 2022 Corvette to do the 70-0 MPH braking in under 150 feet.

This makes the braking performance better than the rivals which cost more than double the price of the Corvette. There are ABS with EBD, brake assist, and hill hold control on offer too. If you get the Z51 performance package, the Brembo 4-piston front and rear monoblock calipers and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires help in anchoring down even more effectively.

Even though the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette only offers two seats, it turned out to be a reasonably spacious car to do those weekend road trips. The headroom of 37.9" and legroom of 42.8" are quite good for the segment and the GT2 Sports seats with the leather or textile surface are a definite plus point.

The front and rear trunks offer a combined capacity of close to 13 cu ft, and that makes it a much more versatile proposition than the likes of the Porsche 911 Carrera S and Audi R8 Coupe. The cabin of the Corvette is pretty ergonomic, with everything being driver-focused, and there are a decent number of storage spaces and cubbyholes too.

Offered for a base MSRP of $65,595, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is unbeatable when it comes to value. Most of the rivals in the segment are priced more than double that of the Corvette. These aren't as fast as the Vette too. The optional features and packages aren't exorbitantly priced, unlike that of the Porsche.

The Corvette can be had in both coupe or convertible avatars, and both of these are reasonably priced. When it comes to the trims, even the base 1LT comes packed with most of the interior and exterior features. However, the 2LT is the trim to go for as it gets even more comfort features along with a few standard driver-assistance techs.
