The latest Honda Civic Type R just set the Nürburgring Nordschleife on fire.

The wait is finally over as Honda will debut its 2023 Civic Type R this summer. The hot hatch is fully camouflaged in the teaser video as it goes flat out on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, but the power is there for all to see. There are plenty of fascinating details to spot as Type R captures your heart in less than a minute.

The most important part is that Honda says it's going to be the most powerful, best-performing Civic Type R ever, as they have already mastered its home turf, the Suzuka Circuit. Let’s dig in further…

The car looks sensational with a massive rear wing and has three tailpipes, a big middle one flanked by two smaller twins. The video also lets you have a peek into the car’s muscular wheel arches and revised aerodynamics, as well as the Brembo brake calipers behind the black wheels.

Honda is not divulging what lies beneath its hood, but it’s an easy guess. They are likely to carry on with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four pots from the last generation to power the 2023 Civic Type R but in a meatier form. There were also rumors of it going hybrid, but the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is still all ICE power.

Honda is not letting out any details, but we do know that the 11th-generation Civic Type R should be out by end-2023, and it should cost around $40,000.

The looks are likely to be a lot better. Think of it as Tom Holland in the last Spider-Man franchise as opposed to the first one, as the Honda Civic Type R is more mature in looks and in the power it offers.

Honda is likely to carry forward the current 306-horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque without changing the four-pot, but tweaking it. The current chassis will also evolve into the next step, with an improved dual-axis strut front suspension. The size is likely to remain more or less the same, with better aerodynamics. The prototype wore a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but the Type R wears better-performance rubber.

To be a record-breaker on the Nordschleife, which the teaser campaign has focused on, the Honda Civic Type R will have to complete a lap in less than the 7 minutes and 40.1 seconds set by the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R Nürburgring Pack. Given Honda’s precision, it could be a matter of time only…
