"Custom puddle lights? You're joking!"

A limited-edition 007 variant of the 2022 Land Rover Defender V8 has been revealed, ahead of this month’s James Bond: No Time to Die world premiere.

Available in 90 (short wheelbase) and 110 (long wheelbase) layouts, the vehicle features an exclusive gloss black paint finish, illuminated sill plates, custom puddle lights, 22-inch alloy wheels, blue brake callipers, and bespoke ‘007’ badging.

The cabin is largely unchanged, however the 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment screen appears to prompt a bespoke Bond animation during launch.

Reportedly specified to match the Land Rovers featured in the spy film, the 'Bond Edition' is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine shared with the 'standard' Defender V8.

This sends 386kW/625Nm to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, allowing the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 5.2 seconds (when fitted to the short-wheelbase 90 variant). Speed tops out at 240km/h.

Just 300 examples of the limited-edition off-roader as slated for production, however Drive understands none are destined for the Australian market. Overseas pricing is yet to be finalised.

It’s unclear exactly what role the new Land Rover Defender V8 is set to play in the much-anticipated (and long-delayed) action flick, however the first trailer released last year appears to show a fleet of Defenders pursuing the title character in several sequences.

A variety of other exotic and classic cars have shown up in previews for the new film, including a 1994 Maserati Quattroporte IV, 1964 Aston Martin DB5, Aston Martin Valhalla concept, 1985 Aston Martin V8 MkIV, and a 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR. A 1998 Toyota LandCruiser also makes an appearance.

James Bond: No Time to Die will premiere on 30 September 2021 in most countries. Due to ongoing lockdowns, the Australian debut has been held back until 8 October 2021.
